Breakfast at Café Savoy, Prague

Edit page

The day before

Thursday evening when I was in Dresden with my dog I spontanously decided to do a short trip to Prague with an overnight stay. I found a cheap deal on AirBnB (33€ for me and the dog) and the Railjet was also not too overprized.

The advantage of traveling spontanously is that you can find really good deals on AirBnb – the disadvantage is that train tickets are more expensive than booked well in advance.

The 2 hours in the train flew by. My dog Lillet rolled herself up to a Donut shape on the floor and slept. The ticket inspector did not even notice her at first and came by later to ask for the dog ticket (which I had of course) :-) He didn’t ask me to put on the muzzle. Relaxed!

The night

My AirBnB in Prague was located at the foot of the Petrin hill in “Malá Strana” district, the romantic historic area on the left bank of the Vltava river. The 1-room apartment had very high ceilings and a sleeping area on an open 2nd floor, that you can often find in Prague apartments: It is like a loft bed but bigger!

The morning

The next morning I took my dog for a walk through Prague’s Andel district to buy some dog food at “DM”. From there we walked back to Kampa Park, a green area close to the river bank where a lot of dogs run freely. My dog could decompress here and roll around on the floor, like she loves to do.

Now, let’s have Breakfast! Very close to my apartment was a café named “Hotel Savoy”. The name and vibe magically attracted me.

The Savoy is a quite a noble place, with an interior made of wood and gold, an opulent ceiling with paintings and ornaments. It has the vibe of a Viennese café and the room is filled with many waiters bustling about.

A sign at the entrance asked me to wait to be seated. I entered with my scruffy dog, her harness dirty from rolling around. The friendly reception lady directed me to a table near the window.

My dog was honourably received:

The first waiter brought her a bowl of water.

The second waiter made her a compliment: “You have a beautiful dog”.

When I was having my decadent breakfast (Eggs Benedict INSIDE a croissant), the first waiter came to my table and brought 2 slices of cooked ham on a silver tray – for my dog !! He asked: “Is it possible?” – We both said yes enthousiastically.

I was completely delighted and moved once again by how sweet and welcoming Prague is. What a lovely start in the day! This is Prague with a dog!
