In the late summer of 2024 I went on a weekend trip to Amsterdam with a group of friends to visit a friend of ours who studied there.
Finding an accommodation for a larger group of people including a dog turned out tricky and expensive, so we decided to try camping.
There are a couple of camp sites in and outside of Amsterdam. We stayed at “Camping Zeeburg” in the East of the Amsterdam. We arrived on a Thursday afternoon and left on Sunday.
Camping in Amsterdam? It sounds rather strange, but it was a great experience overall. I recommend!
Camping Zeeburg

Located on an a sort of half-island the camping site is enclosed by water and even has its own little beach. We pitched our tents at the back of the island where less people walk by and we were surrounded by a natural fence of reeds and the sea behind it. The meadow is incredibly smooth and regular, so even with a thin mattress you will lay comfortably.
We very much enjoyed the vibe of the camp site. Imagining a camp site in Amsterdam we expected much more “Booze tourism”, but this camp site was very chill and the other guests were responsible and friendly.
The public spaces and sanitary facilities are super clean and well maintained.
Dogs on the camp site

On the camp site “Camping Zeeburg” dogs are allowed, but you have to pay an extra fee for them.
On the territory of the camp site dogs have to be on a leash, but I saw many dogs roaming around without a leash and there is no one really checking.
There were about 5 other dogs on our part of the camp site.
There are wild ducks and geese enjoy walking on the territory as well.
Weather turbulence

The Weather in the Netherlands is rather mixed, so no surprise that during the 4 days in late August we had some sun, some rain, and even nightly thunderstorms.
My dog Lillet was sleeping next to me in my spatious 3-person tent.
